Domestic Flights

We are surrounded by everyday magic. Invisible details are unnoticed to us because of our daily routines and the velocity of our automatisms. As the signs displayed in the beautiful video, directed by Hiraki Sawa, for David Sylvian’s song Small Metal Gods. Beside increasingly minimalist notes –which will reveal us Sylvian as a master of silence in a few years–, recurrent images at first sight are shown to our eyes. Only those with the patience and the voracity of looking will discover a world full of domestic flights between the kitchen and the toilet. And that’s why I recalle the words written by the Surrealist poet Paul Eluard: Il y a un autre monde mais il est dans celui-ci.”
